Driver Training:

LEARN THE RIGHT WAY.... A snowmobile course directed at all individuals over the age of twelve.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs Driver Training Course has trained over 205,000 students since its inception in 1976. Under the authority of the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act, the Ministry of Transportation has authorized the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) as an agent to issue Snow Vehicle Operator's licence. Administered by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs and approved by Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

Regular Scheduled Courses:

Courses are available starting October 15, 2009 until April 1, 2010. Please click here for a current list of available courses.

If you are unable to locate a course, or if you are interested in joining the driver training instructor team, please contact the nearest Area Master Instructor

Anyone who does not have a valid driver's licence because of a court or police action will not be issued a Motorized Snow Vehicle licence.

Course Requirements:
The following are course requirements:

  • MUST be at least 12 yrs old on or before the day of the course
  • Minimum 6 hours of classroom instruction
  • Cost $30.00 (includes course material)
  • Upon successful completion of course exam a Snow Vehicle Operator's licence will be issued.

Driving Requirements for Snowmobilers

Drivers 16 and Over:
Residents: Drivers 16 and over may operate a snowmobile on trails and highways where legally permitted. They must hold a valid Ontario driver's licence, including a G1, G2, M1,or M2 , or a Snow Vehicle Operator's Licence. Any one who has lost their Ontario driver's licence for whatever reason cannot operate a snowmobile on trails or on highways where legally permitted.

Non-Residents: To drive a snowmobile in Ontario, the residents of another province, state or country, must be at least 12 years of age or older and have in their possession a valid driver's licence, issued by the particular jurisdiction, which allows them to operate a MSV.

Driver's under 16: If you are at least 12 to 15 years of age and hold a Snow Vehicle Operator's Licence, you may operate a snowmobile on OFSC prescribed trails, however, it is illegal for a person under 16 to drive on or drive across any road.
