Driving Requirements for Snowmobilers Many of the same rules of the road that apply to motor vehicle drivers also apply to snowmobile operators. Failure to comply with these laws carries similar penalties, including possible fines, loss of driver's licence, criminal charges and/or imprisonment. A maximum speed limit of 50 kph applies on OFSC trails.Drivers 16 and Over Ontario Residents: Drivers 16 years of age and older may operate a snowmobile on open OFSC Prescribed snowmobile trails and highways where legally permitted. Residents must hold a valid Ontario driver's licence, including a G1, G2, M1 or M2, or a Snow Vehicle Operator's Licence. Non-Residents: To drive a snowmobile in Ontario, the residents of another province, state or country must have in their possession a valid driver's licence, issued by the particular jurisdiction.
Driver's 16 and Under Ontario Residents between the age of 12 and 15 and who hold a Snow Vehicle Operator's Licence, may operate a snowmobile on open OFSC prescribed trails, however, it is illegal for a person under 16 to drive on or drive across any road.

Using Custom Numbers on Your Sled in Ontario Custom numbers must be attached or painted on both sides of the cowling not less than 10 centimetres or more than 15 centimetres from the rear of the cowling. They must between 5 and 7.6 centimetres or more and have a stroke width between 5 and 13 millimetres. The digits must be a uniform style and height in a colour that contrasts with the background and separated by spaces not more than 5 centimetres wide. The validation sticker must be placed on the left side between the registration numbers and the back of the cowling. Validation stickers issued after June 1, 1997 must be affixed in the centre of a white background that forms a border of at least one centimetre in width around the sticker.
