SNOWMOBILING IS BACK! ONTARIO HOLDS THE LINE ON 2027 SNOWMOBILE TRAIL PERMIT FEES

2027 No Permit Increase PR Banner

Partnership between OFSC and the Government of Ontario will help support the sustainability of Ontario’s snowmobile trail network

(Barrie, ON. September 30, 2026): Snowmobilers will see no increase in Ontario Snowmobile Trail Permit fees for the 2027 season, as the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) work together to balance affordability for riders with the long-term sustainability of the province’s organized snowmobile trail network. The commitment reflects a shared recognition that Ontario’s snowmobile trail system delivers value far beyond the ride itself.

Organized snowmobiling connects communities, provides access to rural and northern Ontario, supports local businesses and winter tourism, creates opportunities for outdoor recreation, and brings together thousands of volunteers, landowners and community partners who collectively make the trail system possible.

“In a world of rising costs, keeping permit fees unchanged is important for Ontario snowmobilers, but doing so cannot come at the expense of the trail system they depend on,” said Ryan Eickmeier, OFSC CEO. “The OFSC remains committed to working with our program partners in the Government of Ontario to sustain this incredible provincial trail network.”

For the OFSC’s community-based clubs and volunteers, that longer-term conversation is increasingly important. Maintaining Ontario’s snowmobile trail system requires year-round work - from securing land-use permissions and maintaining bridges and other infrastructure to preparing trails, servicing grooming equipment, installing signage and responding to changing operational requirements. Permit revenue remains a critical part of funding that work. Every Ontario Snowmobile Trail Permit purchased directly supports the clubs and volunteers responsible for preparing and maintaining the trail system.

Affordability Today. Trails for Tomorrow.

For 2027, the objective is straightforward: keep permit fees stable for riders while continuing to invest in the full trail system that makes organized snowmobiling possible.

“Snowmobile trails are more than lines on a map,” added Eickmeier. “They connect people, communities and generations. They provide an opportunity to experience winter in a way that is uniquely Ontario. Ensuring those opportunities remain available in the future takes partnership - and this commitment is an important part of that work.”

And while the snow may still be months away, OFSC clubs are already preparing for the winter ahead. Volunteers are maintaining equipment, completing trail and infrastructure work, coordinating with landowners and getting ready for another season.
